Being featured this week, as a newer member of the Blackbird Team is Raj Gajjar.

Raj Gajjar joined the Blackbird Team in November 2019. After completing his architectural education in India, he made the move to the United States. With this move, Raj was eager to seek unfamiliar prospects in his creative endeavors.

Raj believes that good design is about simplicity while being conscious of the unbuilt environment. He is intrigued by the use of diverse materials & construction techniques in design. Outside of architecture, he enjoys pursuing his passion for photography & he can often be found on a field playing outdoor sports.

His undergraduate project, “The Civic Domain” is a study of the democratic essence of public space in a politically charged moment following the partition of two Indian states, leading to the emergence of the new state capital. The project follows ideas of sustainability & passive cooling throughout the design, allowing each of the elements to stand out on their own.
