Liqiang Huang: New Members of Bbird

Liqiang HuangThis week we are introducing another member of our Blackbird Team, Liqiang Huang.

Liqiang Huang joined the Blackbird team in February 2020. Originally from China, she received a Bachelor’s in Architecture from Beijing Jiaotong University. She later received her Master’s in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis.

Before joining the Blackbird team, Liqiang worked at architecture firms in China and Japan. Liqiang is interested in sustainability, nature, and poetry. She believes that architecture can provide comfortable and poetic spaces within nature.

Her undergraduate project titled, “Back to Nature” focused on sustainability. She designed a sustainable villa for home-based workers who rent yards from the local residents in rural areas of Beijing. Her design included seven functional courtyards together with the main modular building. The design created a sequence of areas embedded in Chinese traditional Hutong spaces. Hutongs are a type of narrow street or alley commonly associated with northern Chinese cities, especially Beijing. “Back to Nature” received first place in the Temporary and Movable Architecture section of the Asian Design School Awards. A few images from Liqiang’s “Back to Nature” portfolio can be seen below.

Welcome, Liqiang!
